Bakersfield Lady Lions play in Thayer tourney

Bakersfield’s Lady Lions competed in the Thayer Tournament last week.
The Bakersfield girls faced Couch in first-round action Monday, Jan. 16, and came out strong to take a 28-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Lions had no trouble with the Lady Indians and handily beat them, 78-47.
Tuesday, the Bakersfield girls faced host Thayer and took an early lead in the first quarter, but foul trouble opened the door for the Lady Bobcats, who led 16-14 going into the second.
The Bobcats held Bakersfield to just 5 points in the second quarter, with Thayer’s tough defense and offensive rebounding proving to be too much for the Lions, who trailed 40-19 at the half.
In the third quarter, Thayer’s bench saw quite a bit of action, but the Lady Lions continued to struggle and fell to Thayer, 66-37.
Friday night, the Lady Lions took on a tough Willow Springs team and lost 66-35.
Bakersfield hosted Mountain View/Liberty Monday, Jan. 23, and lost 61-31. The Lady Lions were led by Jacelyn McCormack and Syrena Carter, who each scored 15 points.
