Bakersfield MS girls basketball team adds two OT wins last week

The Bakersfield Middle School girls basketball team kept their fans on the edge of their seats last week, pulling out overtime wins over Mansfield and Gainesville.
Monday, Bakersfield hosted the Mansfield Lady Lions in a nailbiter that was tied 30-30 at the end of regulation thanks to  Sierra Carter’s 2-point shot made after she rebounded a missed free throw. Carter went on to seal the win for the Bakersfield team with a 3-point shot in overtime.
Carter led the Lady Lions in scoring with 12 points, followed by Ashton Yeager with 10.
Shelby Summers led in rebounds with 5, while Jade Hodgson led in assists with 3.  
Thursday, the Bakersfield girls traveled to Gainesville to take on the junior Lady Bulldogs. The two teams were evenly matched and were tied at the half with 17 points each. Bakersfield outscored Gainesville by 7 points in the third quarter, but the Lady Bulldogs regrouped and tied up the game, 32-32, at the end of regulation.
Ashton Yeager made two free throws with .2 seconds left on the OT clock to end the game 37-35.
Hodgson and Summers led the scoring with 11 each for Bakersfield, followed by Carter with 8 and Yeager with 7.
Novalee Newkirk led the scoring with 8 points for the Lady Bulldogs, followed by Erin McKinzie with 7.
