Bulldogs defeat Ava in first round of Mansfield tourney

The Gainesville Bulldogs defeated the Ava Bears, 65-45, in the first round of the Mansfield Tournament Monday night and will take on Bakersfield at 6 p.m. Thursday in semi-final action. Watch for a complete wrap-up of the tournament in next week’s edition of the Times.
The Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker Friday night to an undefeated Mountain Grove Panthers team.  The Dogs came close to getting the win but ended with a final score of 48-53. “I was excited about the way the boys executed the game plan to give ourselves a chance,” said GHS coach Matt Powell. “We continue to get better.”
Braden Voss, senior, led the scoring with 20 points and pulled down 26 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
Senior Aaron Swanson added 16 points. Other scorers included Jordan Evans with 5, Brodie Chapman with 3, Brandon Poe and Josh Cockrum with 2 each and Tyelor Estes with 1.
