Gainesville teams pick up wins, prepare for districts

The Gainesville Lady Bulldogs improved to 14-10 on the year with big wins over intra-county rivals Lutie and Bakersfield this past week.

On Monday night, the Lady Bulldogs traveled across Bull Shoals Lake to Theodosia to battle the Lady Indians.

Gainesville jumped out to a 26-6 lead over Lutie en route to a 52-12 first half. The Lady Bulldogs cruised to a 73-31 win over the struggling Lutie team.

Freshman Madison Strong led all scorers with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for Gainesville.

Tali Rose netted 16 for the Lady Bulldogs while Scout Jeckstadt chipped in 14. Sophomore Kiya Head scored 9 for Gainesville.

Individual statistics were not provided by Lutie coaches.

On Saturday night, the Lady Bulldogs had a little tougher tangle with Bakersfield in the third place game of the Seymour Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs lost to Walnut Grove earlier in the tourney.

Only two points separated the Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Lions through three quarters of play as Gainesville held a slight 43-41 lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter. But Gainesville finished the game with a 17-6 run to win the contest, 60-47.

Madison Strong had a stellar night for Gainesville, putting 33 points on the scoreboard. Fellow freshmen Scout Jeckstadt added 11 and Sarah Evans 8. Tali Rose chipped in 6 for the Lady Bulldogs, who begin district tournament action Feb. 16.

<strong>Boys win two</strong>

The Gainesville boys' team also picked up some key wins last week improving them to 17-7 and 4-1 in conference play.

The Bulldogs hosted Fordland on Feb. 5 and clipped the Eagles 62-60 behind the hot hands of Thomas Ritter who finished with 25 points on the night. Josh Peter added 12 for Gainesville while Harley Taylor netted 9. Seth Evans and Zachary Voss each scored 6 while Jim Donley added 4.

On Friday night the Bulldogs hosted Mansfield and, despite a slow start, were able to get a win over the Lions 50-37. Zachary Voss led Gainesville with 14 points while Josh Peter and Thomas Ritter each netted 12.

The Bulldogs will travel to Alton for a Valentine's Day matchup with the Comets. Game time is 6 p.m.
