A completely packed house turned out for the 50th anniversary celebration of the Gainesville Elementary School’s Grandparents Day program held Friday, March 9. Grades K-6 performed a concert under the direction of GES music teacher Laura Guin. Food service director Cindy Potter and the cafeteria staff served a roast turkey lunch to more than 400 grandparents. Gainesville High School FFA members directed traffic and helped in the cafeteria. If the Gainesville School’s application for a FEMA grant is accepted, the district’s tentative plans are for a new 7,800-square-foot storm-shelter structure that would be added to the front of the current high school building. The addition would create a new entrance to the school and provide space for offices, classrooms and a spacious center hallway.
