GHS Lady Bulldogs at 13-0 after victories over Sparta and Blue Eye

The Gainesville Lady Bulldogs brought their season record to 13-0 after wins over Sparta and Blue Eye at the Sparta Lady Trojans Tournament last week. The Lady Bulldogs, seeded in the number two spot, face their greatest challenge so far this season when they battle an undefeated first-seed Norwood team for the tournament championship at 8:30 p.m. tonight.
Gainesville’s Annie Noah led the way to the 59-23 win over Sparta, scoring 22 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Chasity Mansker and Michia Jenkins scored 8 points each. Aspyn Britt added 6. Shelby Smith chipped in 4, while Shai Meek and Destiny Scott  added 3. Brexton Miller scored 2. “We were able to create some good scoring opportunities with our press,” said GHS coach Morris Jenkins.   “We left their shooters open a little in the third quarter, but overall, pretty decent defensively.”
In the next round, the Lady Bulldogs faced number three seed Blue Eye and pulled out a solid 54-36 win.
“Blue Eye has a very solid team,” Jenkins said.   “Due to some early foul trouble, we had to change our normal substitution pattern. We had some players really step up and give us quality play.  Girls  stayed focused and were able to keep the game where it needed to be. They played good defense and were able to hit some key shots at key times.  Overall, this was a very good win for our team.”
Annie and Michia led the scoring for the Gainesville girls with 20 and 14, respectively. Others scoring were Shelby with 5, Shai with 4, Destiny with 3. Aspyn, Chasity and Cassie Carlo had 2 each.
