Lady Bulldogs, Lady Lions win first-round district games

District tournament action is under way around the Ozarks and two local teams advanced in the first round of tournament play while two others came up short.
The Gainesville Lady Bulldogs defeated Hartville 57-42 Monday night and were scheduled to play Fordland at 6 Wednesday evening in the second round.
"This was our first district win since the state team did it in 2004-2005," said Gainesville's coach Judith Tilley. "The girls played really hard. I am proud of them and how far they've come this year."
Sara Warden recorded her third double-double of the season, with 10 points and 13 boards. Leading scorer for Gainesville was Shaina Naegele, who had 21 points.
Others scoring for Gainesville were Haley Crisp with 14, Haley Whisnant with 4, Lakyn McGee with 3 and Laiken Collins with 1.
Bakersfield girls
The Bakersfield Lady Lions beat Lutie in the opening round of districts, 73-27. Bakersfield will play Exeter at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
All 14 Lady Lions scored in the contest, led by Emma French with 13 points. Kandi Foster had 12, Betsy Minkler added 9 points and 4 assists. Oakley Dihel led in rebounds with 8.
Bakersfield is currently 19-6.
