Lady Lions win two of three at Liberty

The Bakersfield Lady Lions won two out of three games in the Mountain View/Liberty Tournament over the weekend, beating Liberty and Couch but losing to Thayer.

Thayer outscored Bakersfield 13-3 in the second quarter and finished the game with an 18-11 run to beat the Lady Lions 60-39 on Jan. 3.

Kody Smith led Bakersfield with 13 points, followed by Betsy Minkler with 10 and Candice Summers and Larissa Britt with 6 each.

The next day the Lady Lions jumped out to a 12-5 first-quarter lead over Couch and held on to beat the Lady Indians 47-41.

Betsy Minkler led Bakersfield with 14 points and 7 assists. Candice Summers and Kody Smith each had 8 points while Larissa Britt netted 7. Valerie Amerlan, and Rachel Colbert each scored 4 and Kristin Marsh had 2 for the Lady Lions.

On Saturday, Bakersfield held tournament-host Liberty to 4 points in the fourth quarter, winning 69-61.

Betsy Minkler scored 26 points to lead the way for Bakersfield, followed by Larissa Britt's 18 points. Kody Smith chipped in 10 while Kristin Marsh netted 9.

The Lady Lions will travel to Dora on Jan. 10 for a 6 p.m., game.
