Tecumseh news: July 11, 2018

I'm still enjoying all the birthday cards I've received, plus the many phone calls. I read the cards over and over. I never throw one away, which means someday my girls will have fun – or a big job! As I receive those pretty birthday cards, I treasure each one.
Sandi Chrietzberg Richard from Ben Wheeler, Texas, visited with my daughter Kris Luebbert recently, and also Karla Dean Hathcock. They enjoyed pizza at Antler together Friday evening. The girls attended school together.
My granddaughter Alexus Owens' grandfather Keith Cessna from Salina, Kansas, and her uncle, Jeremy Cessna from Tulsa, Oklahoma, along with cousin Eric visited her Saturday and Sunday. They reported an enjoyable stay at Rocky Top Campground.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Marcia Lyon after recent heart procedures at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home.
Paralee Rea is waiting to hear from Sue Newton of Mountain Home, who returned recently from a trip to Ireland.
On summer evenings I remember when we Ebrite cousins – Rex, R. J., Betty and I – played on the Gainesville courthouse yard of evening catching junebugs and tying their legs to a string ripped from our laying-mash chicken-feed sacks. We were second cousins.
My mischievous teenage friend Gertie Sowards and I once tied june bugs on long strings, wrapping them around the steering wheel of my sister's boyfriend's car. When they started the motor, the bugs flew up from where they were hiding. I'm sure my sister and her boyfriend suspected who the pranksters were. Of course we were hiding to watch.
Happy birthday to my daughter Kris Luebbert on July 16 as she grows older gracefully doing home healthcare as her RN duties.
Daughter Karen Davis and husband Dave had doctor appointments in Mountain Home Monday.
This time of year I remember our longtime neighbor Merle Satterfield and wife Beulah and the many, many years when Merle raised sweet corn and sold the ears by the dozens. Some of his customers, like Kris Ledbetter, would buy several dozen ears at a time. It was the best sweet corn grown in this area. I was blessed to be their good friend, and Beulah and I gleaned the cornpatch after Merle finished selling. They were good neighbors. Merle is now at the Veterans Home in Mount Vernon.
Tim Richards, a nephew of Jerry Miller from Louisiana, now owns Merle and Beulah's farm where that corn was grown. He's retired from Exxon-Mobil.
On July 1, I turned 96. Warren Harding was president when I was born. I lost my mother when I was 13, and Daddy and I carried on without her for my four years of high school. Daddy – George Crawford – was born in Marshfield and only went through the third grade. He had to raise his younger siblings, and the advice he gave to me, in his handwriting, was this: "Remember thy creator in the days of thy youth." It's advice I have remembered all through my years.
