National Day of Prayer to be observed here at noon May 3

The Ozark County Ministerial Alliance will sponsor a community prayer service Thursday, May 3, the National Day of Prayer. This time of special prayer for the nation will be held at noon at the gazebo in front of the Ozark County Courthouse.
“The theme for this year’s Day of Prayer is unity, emphasizing the need for individuals, corporately and individually, to return to the God of our fathers in reverence for His Holy Name,” said local coordinator of the event Betty Stanley. “To emphasize the theme, planners have chosen Ephesians 4:3 as our Scripture for this year: ‘Making every effort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace.’”
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
The event’s national task force is a privately funded organization whose purpose is to encourage participation on the National Day of Prayer.
“Its goal is to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer and to mobilize the Christian community to intercede for America’s leaders and its families,” Stanley said.
The task force represents a Judeo-Christian expression of the national observance, based on the belief that this country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for the God of the Bible.
“We urge everyone to participate in this time of prayer for our country and state, as well our local leaders in government, law enforcement, emergency services and education,” Stanley said.
