The Gainesville Volunteer Fire Department lost its pumper and ladder trucks in last year’s flood and fire. But within a few weeks of the double catastrophe, the Republic Fire Department had offered to sell the city of Gainesville a used firetruck (left) for $25,000, and the Robertson Fire Protection District gave the department a used fire and rescue truck it had previously offered for sale for $80,000.
