At this week’s meeting of the Ozark County Commission, the new bridge on County Road 912 over Pond Ford Creek in Thornfield was discussed. The half-million-dollar bridge, built by Ozark-based RJ Warren Construction Co, opened in January. The previous wood-and-concrete bridge at the site was removed for replacement in September 2020. In January, former Western District Commissioner Greg Donley said commissioners had worked on getting the bridge replaced since late 2017. The project was completed through the “Off-System Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation program,” which uses the abbreviation BRO and involves both state and federal funds.
At their weekly meeting Monday morning, the Ozark County Commissioners discussed the reopening of Haskins Ford, the county’s sales tax progress for the year and damage from last Friday’s storms as well as other rock and gravel projects.

Amanda Hill shared these photos of her home after it was ‘ransacked’ on the day her husband Boyd Hill was killed in a crash, she says. Hill said she was seeking medical attention for her three children, who sustained injuries in the crash, when someone vandalized her home, broke out the glass windows and doors, turned over furniture, left graffiti on the walls and otherwise damaged her home. Hill said she was not able to bring her children home from the hospital immediately because of the damage. Her brother-in-law, William Hill, has now been charged in connection with the property damage. He is also charged with domestic assault against his wife in an unrelated case.

This and other boulders were specifically placed at the crossing to help warn motorists that the road is closed while still allowing access to fishermen, who have reportedly removed or stolen other barricades that have been placed there in the past when they impede the anglers’ access to the water for fishing or launching boats. The boulders are installed in addition to permanent signage at the top and bottom of the hill before the crossing. But, as shown here, drivers don’t always heed the warnings.
