Gainesville Cemetery board members, from left, Jeff and Taler Nash, Mike Breeding, and Chris, Linda and John Harlin recently arranged for Rob Collins with his Chaney Monument crew to clean all the headstones in the cemetery on County Road 503 south of the Gainesville business district.
Up to a century’s accumulation of grime, dirt, pollen, mold and lichen has been washed away from the headstones in the Gaines-ville Cemetery, freshening up the appearance of the pastoral setting and revealing “an amazing amount of history,” one of the cemetery board members said. Rob Collins of...

During a recent trip out of state, Gainesville resident Michelle Pointer continued her recycling habit, depositing recyclable plastics into a designated bin.
Thursday is Earth Day, a time when we celebrate our beautiful planet and consider how we help it continue to be our healthy home in the universe. One way Ozark Countians contribute to that effort is by delivering trash and recyclables to the Ozark County Recycling Center on County Road 502 at Lilly...

At this week’s meeting of the Ozark County Commission, the new bridge on County Road 912 over Pond Ford Creek in Thornfield was discussed. The half-million-dollar bridge, built by Ozark-based RJ Warren Construction Co, opened in January. The previous wood-and-concrete bridge at the site was removed for replacement in September 2020. In January, former Western District Commissioner Greg Donley said commissioners had worked on getting the bridge replaced since late 2017. The project was completed through the “Off-System Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation program,” which uses the abbreviation BRO and involves both state and federal funds.
At their weekly meeting Monday morning, the Ozark County Commissioners discussed the reopening of Haskins Ford, the county’s sales tax progress for the year and damage from last Friday’s storms as well as other rock and gravel projects.   Passable Haskins Ford “The ford – I don’t know if it’s...
As court cases progress toward trial, they often fall into a delicate dance with the prosecution and defense teams tangoing back and forth with various motions that pull one side or the other to the lead.  Last week, the dance continued in the case against Theodosia-area resident Rebecca Ruud, who...
Dora’s third graders are a blessed bunch to be led by dedicated educator Angela Masters.  “We’re extremely lucky to have such a dedicated and caring individual as a member of our staff, as well as our community,” Dora principal Brett Mitchell told the Times. “All of the students in Mrs. Masters’...

Amanda Hill shared these photos of her home after it was ‘ransacked’ on the day her husband Boyd Hill was killed in a crash, she says. Hill said she was seeking medical attention for her three children, who sustained injuries in the crash, when someone vandalized her home, broke out the glass windows and doors, turned over furniture, left graffiti on the walls and otherwise damaged her home. Hill said she was not able to bring her children home from the hospital immediately because of the damage. Her brother-in-law, William Hill, has now been charged in connection with the property damage. He is also charged with domestic assault against his wife in an unrelated case.
Editor’s note: This online article has been updated from the version printed in the April 14, 2021, paper, giving additional details about Hill’s court appearance and surrender to law enforcement. The hearing occurred after the Times’ press deadline Tuesday.    William T. Hill, 34, of Gainesville...

An Ozark County Health Department staff member snapped this photo and posted it to the OCHD Facebook page last week asking if anyone had lost a rooster. The friendly foul ran across the roadway Monday morning to greet OCHD administrator Rhonda Suter when he saw her at the office’s glass-paneled front door. He spent most of the next two days there, periodically peeking in the window.
Monday, March 29, the Ozark County Health Department had an early morning visitor.  “I got to work on Monday morning, and we have a security device on the door that usually says, ‘Welcome. Building secured’ in a real low voice. Just as it said that, I heard a loud ‘Cocka-a-doodle-doo,’” Ozark...

Times photo/Jessi Dreckman Road closed This painted boulder is hard to miss on County Road 863 at Haskins Ford. This and other boulders were specifically placed at the crossing to help warn motorists that the road is closed while still allowing access to fishermen, who have reportedly removed or stolen other barricades that have been placed there in the past when they impede the anglers’ access to the water for fishing or launching boats. The boulders are installed in addition to permanent signage at the top and bottom of the hill before the crossing. But, as shown here, drivers don’t always heed the warnings.
The Ozark County Commissioners had a relatively quick meeting Monday morning. Among the topics they discussed were the Haskins Ford crossing, Tuesday’s General Municipal Election and the recycling center.    Additional barricades put out at Haskins Ford “Anybody got any old business?” Presiding...
