The Center news: Oct. 4, 2017

A free “Medicare and You” class will be offered here at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10,  sponsored by The SeniorAge Area Agency on Aging and The Center. The class helps participants make sense of the decisions  involved in starting Medicare and in making choices during open enrollment. Individual counseling sessions are also available by appointment after the class. Appointments are limited; call Treva Warrick, 417-840-2573, to schedule one. 

 

Menus

Lunch is served daily from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and is open to everyone. The cost is $6 for those younger than 60; a $3.50 donation is requested for those over 60. Call 679-4746 to order take-out for 25 cents more.

Wednesday, Oct. 4: shrimp, baked potato, California blend, roll, cake and ice cream. Thursday, Oct. 5: lasagna, carrots and cauliflower, bread stick, brownie. Friday, Oct. 6: fried fish, brown beans, coleslaw, cornbread, cookie. Monday, Oct. 9: The Center will be closed in observance of Columbus Day. Tuesday, Oct. 10: oven-fried chicken, mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts, roll, pudding pie. Wednesday, Oct. 11: pork loin, baked potato, tomato and zucchini, biscuit, apple dumplings. Thursday, oct. 12: steak burger on a bun, potato salad, green beans, gooey butter cake.

Wednesday, Oct. 4: pitch and dominoes 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5: bingo 1 p.m., music jam session 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6: arthritis exercise class 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9: Closed in observance of Columbus Day. Tuesday, Oct. 10: gentle stretching exercise class 9 a.m., Medicare and You, 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11: pitch and dominoes 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12: bingo 1 p.m., music jam session 6 p.m.

OATS transportation is available to the entire county and is available to anyone regardless of age, income, disability, race, gender, religion or national origin. If you don’t see your area listed, call driver Angela Pleasant, 417-343-0573, for help arranging your ride. For rides from Bakersfield, Caulfield and Dora, call Jean Lawing, 284-7377; from Theodosia and Gainesville, call Mary Piepergerdes, 679-4142.To arrange rides to Springfield, call Lawing or Pleasant. 

This is the OATS schedule for October: Each Thursday of the month, Caulfield and Bakersfield go to West Plains. Monday, Oct. 9: Pontiac, Gainesville and Theodosia go to Springfield.  Tuesday, Oct.  10: Theodosia and Gainesville go to West Plains. Monday, Oct. 16: Caulfield and Bakersfield go to Mountain Home.  Tuesday, Oct.  17: Theodosia and Gainesville go to Mountain Home. Tuesday, Oct.  24: The whole county comes to Gainesville this day, and the Ozark County Food Pantry is open at a special time for OATS riders only. Monday, Oct.  30: Pontiac to Branson.
