2019 Hootin an Hollarin quilt show includes 28 colorful entries

Katie Hoversen won the Best in Show ribbon in this year’s Hootin an Hollarin quilt show for her pieced and hand-appliqued “Climbing Jacob’s Ladder” quilt. Hoversen made the quilt using scraps and other pieces of fabric given to her by friends after all her quilting supplies were destroyed when her house was washed away in the 2017 floods. See more photos in the quilt show album on the Ozark County Times Facebook page, which includes winners of the Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice ribbons as well as the “Out of This World” quilt made and donated by Linda and Gary Smith of Sycamore.

Twenty-eight beautiful quilts were presented for the public’s enjoyment at this year’s Hootin an Hollarin quilt show sponsored by the Friendly Neighbors Extension Club. Katie Hoversen won the Best in Show ribbon for her hand-appliqued “Climbing Jacob’s Ladder” pattern. Sandra Stone’s machine-pieced memory quilt won the Judges’ Choice ribbon. The quilt Lou Arta Corbin made for her granddaughter as a graduation gift won the People’s choice award.

Hanna Lynne created our youngest entry. She pieced and quilted a pretty pink quilt last year when she was 11. The quilt won first place in the youth category.

We thank everyone who shared their works of art and colorful creations in this year’s show.  Your willingness to share with us makes our show a success.

David Haskins’ antique friendship quilt, embroidered with names of Ozark County residents at least 75 years ago, was awarded this year’s “A Trip Back When” theme ribbon.

These are the first-place winners in the specified categories: Julie Pippin, lap quilt category and in the hand-pieced and hand-quilted category; Emma Thayer, wall-hanging; Charlotte Sullivan Wood, first quilt; Katie Hoversen, applique by hand category (this quilt also won Best in Show); Barbara Freeman, machine-pieced and machine quilted; Sandra Stone, machine-pieced and hand-quilted (this quilt also won Judges’ Choice).

The “Out of This World quilt” made and donated by Linda and Gary Smith of Sycamore for our fund-raising raffle was won by Suzanne Meeks of Theodosia.
