Brooks Blevins to talk about book describing ‘Old Ozarks’ Thursday, Oct. 4, at Historium

The Ozark County Historium will host author/historian/professor Brooks Blevins at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, as he introduces his newest book, A History of the Ozarks Volume 1: The Old Ozarks. Blevins will have copies of his book available for sale. This is a repeat visit for Blevins, who spoke 10 years ago at the Historium about a previous book he authored.

Blevins is the Noel Boyd Professor of Ozarks Studies at Missouri State University in Springfield. A native of the Ozarks, Blevins traces his ancestry back two centuries to some of the earliest U.S. settlers in the White River country. He has written or edited eight books, including Ghost of the Ozarks: Murder and Memory. His newest book, A History of the Ozarks, Volume 1: The Old Ozarks, is the first book in a trilogy on the history of the entire Ozark region.

Blevins has been teaching courses on Ozarks history and literature at MSU for 10 years and says he always regretted that there was no comprehensive written history of the Ozark region. This inspired him to write his trilogy.

This event is free and open to the public For more information, call the Historium at 417-679-2400 during business hours, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday-Friday. Historium volunteer Janet Taber says everyone is encouraged to come and learn more about the Ozarks and its unique history.
