Jan. 5 ONE meeting focuses on building local food economy

Amelia LaMair

Amelia LaMair of Sycamore will address the Ozarks Neighborly Exchange (ONE) about building the local food economy in Ozark County during a meeting to be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Theodosia United Metho-dist Church on Highway 160 across from Lutie School in Theodosia.

LaMair has been working on the issue of building Ozark County’s local food economy for some time and currently has a USDA-sponsored grant to support her work. She says several residents are engaged in the food economy here.

Her current project includes interviewing farmers to see what they are doing now and what would help them in the future; she’s also getting them together to share information, tools, labor, seed orders or whatever they might find helpful.

LaMair has started a website and a newsletter, The Ozarks Agrarian News, to support this effort. The free newsletter is available in both digital and print versions; to join the online mailing list, email LaMair at amelia.lamair@gmail.com. She will have printed copies of the newsletter at the ONE meeting. The meeting is open to everyone. For more information about the ONE meeting, call Suzanne Meeks, 417-273-1234.
