Masons to host flag-retirement ceremony Saturday, June 29

During the 2018 flag retirement ceremony hosted by Sampson Masonic Lodge in Theodosia, Girl Scouts and co-leader Virginia Campbell, right, arranged the faded and torn American flags before each was taken to the fire to be retired.

Sampson Masonic Lodge #298 in Theodosia will conduct its fifth annual American flag retirement ceremony beginning at noon Saturday, June 29, at the lodge located on Highway #160 next to Lutie School.  Missouri 155th District Rep. Karla Eslinger will be the keynote speaker. Girl Scouts from Troop #71227 in Gainesville will play a major role in the proceedings, organizers said, as will the Junior Air Force ROTC from Branson High School.

Other organizations scheduled to participate or attend include VFW Post #5366 and AMVETS Post #154 from Isabella, American Legion Post #112 from Ava, Combat Vets Motorcycle Association chapter 4-12 from Gaines-ville, the Ozark County Honor Guard, the Ozark County Sheriff’s Depart-ment, Theodosia Area Volunteer Fire Department and the Gainesville Volunteer Fire Department.

Worn and unserviceable American flags to be retired at the ceremony can be dropped off at the Masonic Lodge in Theodosia, at the VFW Post on HH Highway in Isabella, or at the Theodosia branch of Century Bank of the Ozarks.

The Masons also welcome those attending to bring flags to the event and, if desired, dedicate them to loved ones, family members, military units, past or present members of the U.S. military, before the flags are placed into the retirement fires.

Everyone is invited to attend and participate. For more information, call Len Modlinski at 417-273-2190.
