Big Bob's fishing report: Jan. 31, 2018

Bass fishing was hit-and-miss last weekend with several people doing very good while others struggled. The winning five-fish limit at Buck Creek was a little over 18 pounds with a big bass just over 5 pounds. The A rig worked well as did jigs and tubes. Most fish were in the 20- to 25-foot range, and if you found a brush pile it usually had some fish on it. Early in the week, jerkbaits thrown around timbered bluffs also produced some nice fish to include several walleye.

Crappie fishing remains good with live minnows, chrome-head jigs or the Charlie Brewer bee (a small type of spin bait). Look for crappie around standing timber or brush piles in about 15 to 18 feet of water. For bank fishermen, live minnows seem to be working the best.

The walleye spring migration is not far away and could start any time. Jerkbaits and live bait work well, especially on Lake Norfork. Now is the time to take advantage of our 25 percent off sale on jerkbaits. We are continuing our sale on Fenwick HMG spinning rods for another two weeks. Normally $99.99, they are on sale for $69.99.
