Storm damage

Scattered storms swept through the area over the weekend, bringing welcomed rain to farmers and gardeners and not-so-welcome wind and hail in a few areas. Jordan Henderson’s car, parked in the driveway at the Protem-area home of her grandparents, Tommy Joe and Sherry Skinner, was crushed when strong winds toppled several big trees in the Skinners’ yard. The high winds also ripped the roof off their porch and caved in the chicken house door. In a few other areas, large hailstones were reported. Insurance agent Doug Hawkins said he had only two claims from the storm, but one of the reports said the hail was “bigger than a golfball.”
