Tecumseh barricade goes up

As it said it would do, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers installed this road barricade and sign Wednesday, March 14, at the Tecumseh access on Highway 160. The gate blocks motorized traffic from entering the access during a $1 million renovation to repair the roadway, parking lot and boat ramp that were heavily damaged during a historic flood at the end of April 2017. The gate is expected to remain in place until repairs are completed in April 2020, Corps  project manager Mark Case said during a Feb. 13 public workshop at The Center in Gainesville. The access is still open to foot traffic and bank fisherman, but vehicles have to be parked on the shoulders alongside Highway 160. Boaters should plan to use other nearby boat accesses in the area including Bridges Creek (known locally as “Stump Hole” located off County Road 551B, known locally as “Smokey Road”), Udall (on O Highway), Liner Creek (on T Highway) and Calamity Beach (on County Road 24 in Clarkridge, Arkansas).
