Gainesville Volunteer Fire Department personnel visited the two Gainesville preschool classes last week, introducing the students to fire safety skills, giving them a tour of the fire engine and showing students what a firefighter might look like dressed in fire gear in case of a house fire. Students were also invited to spray water from the fire hose.

Gainesville fire chief Ed Doiron told the Times the visits are important to help teach young children not to be afraid of firefighters. Doiron said he hopes the department can extend the annual visits to other young students in early grades in the future.
