Awards, scholarships, recognitions announced at GHS awards program
Scholarships and awards worth approximately $892,590 were announced for members of the Gainesville High School class of 2020 at the school’s awards program June 17, which was rescheduled due to concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the awards program, GHS counselor Miranda Donley listed the scholarships and awards earned by the graduates and also recognized these students who completed vocational training at South Central Career Center in West Plains: Tim Loach, carpentry; Branetta McNece, auto collision and repair; Gavin Phelan, welding technology; and Tanner Simpson, commercial art and advertising.
Donley also recognized Tim Loach for passing his initial strength test, qualifying him to officially join the Marine Corps. He will leave July 6 for basic training, Donley said.
