Century Bank finds ways to give back
Doug Hawkins hands Kate Knight a $5 gift certificate provided by Century Bank of the Ozarks while picking up his lunch Friday at the Fried & Frozen food truck in Gainesville. Century Bank donated 40 $5 gift certificates to 17 different businesses in Ozark and Douglas Counties last week, telling business owners to distribute them as they saw fit. Century Bank CEO Chris Harlin told the Times the idea for the gift certificates came up a few weeks ago as he and his wife, Missy, were brainstorming ways to help the local community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Chris said Missy suggested the gift certificate program, and he thought it was a great idea. “We know that a lot of these restaurants and small businesses had to change to takeout and delivery, and we just kind of thought this killed two birds with one stone,” Harlin said. “It helped the community by paying for roughly half the cost of a meal and helps the small businesses and restaurants with more customers.” Harlin said Century Bank also made donations to Bakersfield, Dora, Gainesville, Lutie, Thornfield and Ava schools to help supplement food and hygiene items that have been provided to students during the extended closures.
