Colorful recognition of Donley’s 12 years as commissioner

At an informal potluck Christmas party for Ozark County employees, former Ozark County Western District Commissioner Greg Donley, right, expressed thanks to his fellow commissioners, Road and Bridge employees and courthouse staff for the plaque they gave him recognizing his 12 years’ service as commissioner. Donley was elected in 2008 as a Democrat, one of the few Democrats elected to a local Ozark County position in several decades. He changed his party affiliation to Independent ahead of his 2016 campaign and was again elected. He announced several months ago that he had decided not to run for re-election in 2020. Gainesville resident Layne Nance, who was elected in the August primary to replace Donley, ran unopposed in the Nov. 3 general election. Davin Friend, pictured at left, told the Times that when Eastern District Commissioner Gary Collins told him about the plaque to be presented to Donley, Friend told Collins he had “the perfect outfit” to wear for that presentation. Friend said he had bought the colorful Christmas jacket and matching necktie “a couple of years ago at Wal-mart to wear for our church’s Christmas program.” He pastors at Lilly Ridge General Baptist Church.
