The new Dollar General store in Bakersfield has opened and will celebrate with a grand opening event to be held Saturday, May 4, when free gift cards will be given to the first 50 adult customers. Tote bags will be handed out to the first 200 adult customers that day.

The store is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, according to an email from Dollar General spokesperson Angela Petkovic. The store will employ approximately six to 10 employees, depending on the store’s specific needs, she said. Those interested in applying should visit dollargeneral.com/careers. Ryan Williams is the store manager.

The Bakersfield store is Ozark County’s third Dollar General, with others operating in Gainesville and Theodosia. Another Dollar General is in Caulfield, just east of the Ozark-Howell county line. Petkovic said Dollar General considers its customers’ convenience when selecting locations for its stores. “We generally serve customers within a three- to five-mile radius, or a 10-minute drive,” Petkovic said in an email to the Times. “We also take demographic trends, competitive factors, traffic patterns and community concerns into consideration.”
