Dora joins five other VFDs to fight Twin Bridges-area fire

Dora Volunteer Fire Department on Tuesday, Dec. 29, responded in mutual aid to a Douglas County fire in the Twin Bridges area on Highway 181.
The fire, which was within the Twin Bridges VFD territory, was reported at 8:06 a.m. Twin Bridges firefighters responded to the scene, where the homeowner was reportedly attempting to put out the fire with a garden hose. Once the Twin Bridges VFD tanker truck arrived on scene, firefighters began spraying down the fire.
Dora VFD arrived next with its pumper truck. Dora firefighters used most of their water and reportedly were able to knock down most of the flames.
Eastern Douglas County, Eleven Point, Pumpkin Center and Willow Springs VFDs also responded in mutual aid. EDCVFD chief Chris Hammett told the Times Monday the home was owned by a single dad who lived there with his teenage daughter. Everyone was able to get out of the home safely, Hammett said, and there were no injuries.
The fire departments cleared the scene by 12:45 p.m.; however, at 9:42 p.m., the fire rekindled. The VFDs responded again, and just after midnight firefighters determined it was best to allow the home, which had already burned inside, to burn under a controlled situation with their supervision.
A post on the Twin Bridges VFD Facebook page said some TBVFD firefighters stayed on scene until 5:30 a.m. Wednesday to make sure the fire didn’t spread. Hammett said he thought the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
