Kids will be busy this weekend hunting those Easter eggs

Esme Landry is pictured here collecting eggs during the 2019 First Christian Church Easter egg hunt. The 2020 egg hunt was cancelled due to the covid pandemic. This year’s event will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at the church.

Easter is Sunday, and the weather is forecast to be sunny and clear this weekend. That means Ozark Countians should have good conditions for hunting colorful eggs, visiting the Easter bunny, attending church services and sharing family dinners.

The following list of area events provides area residents with several opportunities to hunt eggs. Most of the events listed ask participants to bring their own baskets for egg collection.

Saturday, April 3

10 a.m. - First Christian Church hosts its annual community Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. Saturday. Egg hunters should bring a basket, and parents are encouraged to bring a camera as the Easter Bunny will be making an appearance. The hunt will be held on the church grounds on Highway 160 across from Hoerman Memorial Park in Gainesville.

10 a.m. - A Pontiac Easter egg hunt will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pontiac park off W Highway. Everyone is invited. “If you’re able to contribute plastic eggs and filler (about 15 eggs per child you’re bringing) – in advance – that would be great,” said one of the organizers, Jabet Wade of Pontiac Cove Marina. She added that eggs can be dropped off at the marina or at MFA Propane in Gainesville on Friday, April 2. Wade says organizers will also be hiding extra eggs that morning, so parents who aren’t able to provide filled eggs beforehand are still encouraged to bring their children. Refreshments will be provided, and the Easter Bunny will make an appearance. For more information, call Wade at 417-679-3676.

10 a.m. - An Easter family event will be held from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday at the Christian Church of Mountain Home (Arkansas). The event will feature games, family actives, fun and an Easter egg hunt, while “learning about the true meaning of Easter,” an event flyer explains. Those attending are asked to register by calling 870-425-8323 or online at easterfamilyeventccmh.eventbrite.com.

1 p.m. - Bakersfield community egg hunt will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Bakersfield Pride Park. The egg hunt, hosted by Bakersfield Baptist Church, is open to children age 3 to second grade. The socially distanced event will feature prizes, candy and fun, organizers say. Every family participating will receive a copy of the resurrection story to take home.

1 p.m. - An Ava community Easter egg hunt will be held at 1 p.m. at Saturday at Ava United Methodist Church on Washington Avenue in Ava. The event is open to those age 10 and younger. Prizes will be awarded to winners in four different age groups. Hotdogs, chips and drinks will be served after the hunt.

Sunday, April 4

2 p.m. - Rockbridge Rainbow Trout Ranch will host an Easter egg hunt at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 4, at the resort off N Highway north of Gainesville. All ages are welcome to join in the fun. The Easter Bunny will be available for visiting from 2 to 4 p.m. The egg hunt is at 2 p.m., and corral rides are from 3 to 5 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring a basket for their eggs. For more information, call 417-679-3619.
