Lady Bulldogs go 3-1 at MG tournament


The Gainesville Lady Bulldogs brought home the consolation trophy (seventh place) at the seventh annual 16-team Mountain Grove Holiday Tournament held Dec. 26-30 at Mountain Grove High School. The Gainesville Lady Bulldogs went 3-1 at the Mountain Grove Holiday Tournament held Dec. 26-30, and brought home the consolation trophy. The wins bring the Lady Bulldogs’ record to 5-5 for the year.

Gainesville fell to Mansfield 52-42 in the first-round game. Liz Kinworthy led the scoring with 14, followed by Shayla Wages with 10 and Hallee Donley with 9. Kinworthy and Gracie Strain led in rebounds with 11 each, while Hallee Donley pulled down 6. Erin McKinzie led in assists with 4, followed by Wages with 3 and Kinworthy with 2.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated Houston 41-30 in the second round. Kin-worthy led the scoring with 15, followed by Wages with 13 and Donley with 11. Debra Winrod led in rebounds with 7 and McKinzie led in assists with 6.

In round three, the Gainesville girls trounced Plato 56-34, led by Shayla Wages’ 28 points. Kinworthy led in rebounds with 15. Wages, Kinworhty and McKinzie each had 2 assists.

In the round-4 consolation finals, Gainesville defeated Mountain Grove 50-30. Hallee Donley was the leading scorer with 18 points, followed by Wages with 15. Kinworthy led in rebounds with 7, followed by Winrod with 6. McKinzie led in assists with 4.

The Lady Bulldogs’ next game is Thursday, Jan. 7, when they take on Bradleyville at 5:30 p.m.
