Lady Falcons take 5th at Holiday Tourney


The Dora Lady Falcons took fifth place at the seventh annual Mountain Grove Holiday Tournament held Dec. 26-30 at Mountain Grove High School. The Dora Lady Falcons brought home fifth place in the 7th Annual Mountain Grove Holiday Tournament held Dec. 26-30 at Mountain Grove High School. Seeded in the number 8 spot of the 16-team tournament, a 63-54 win over fifth-seed Mansfield in the third game of the tourney put Dora in position to take on Bradleyville for the fifth-place trophy. It was a battle, but the Lady Falcons squeaked by with a 35-31 win over the Eagles to bring home the hardware.

On Saturday, Dec, 26, Dora started the tournament with a 60-45 victory over Plato, which was seeded ninth. Cassidy Hambelton led the way with 22 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Riley Collins added 13 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, and had 6 steals and 3 assists. Others scoring for Dora were McKenna Miller 7, Chesney Luna 6, and Kaitlin Hambelton, Lauren Martin and Callen Depriest with 4 each.

The win brought the Dora girls back on Monday to face number one seed Salem. The Lady Falcons fell to the Lady Tigers, 56-36. Riley Collins led the scoring with 15 points, followed by Cassidy Hambelton with 7 and Kaitlin Hambelton with 5. McKenna Miller added 4. Chesney Luna, Riley Collins and McKenna Miller led in rebounds with 7 each.

The Dora girls returned with a vengeance Tuesday night, defeating Mansfield 63-54, led by Cassidy Hambelton, who scored a whopping 31 points. Others scoring were Riley Collins 12, McKenna Miller 10, Callen Depriest 5, Chesney Luna 3 and Kaitlin Hambelton 4. Collins led the rebounding column with 11, followed by Miller with 9 and Cassidy Hambelton with 8.

On Wednesday, Dec. 30, Dora defeated Bradley-ville, 35-31. Cassidy Hambelton scored 15 points. Riley Collins, Chesney Luna, Callen Depriest and Lauren Martin added 4 points each, while Kaitlin Hambelton and McKenna Miller chipped in 2 each. The win brought the Lady Falcons’ season record to 7-5.

Monday, Jan. 4, Dora hosted Chadwick and will travel back to Mountain Grove to take on the Lady Panthers at 6 p.m. 

On Monday, Jan. 11, Dora hosts Couch with games beginning at 5 p.m.
