Lions Club auction to be held Saturday in GHS stadium

Lions Club members Bill Trivitt, left, and Chris Harlin display some of the items that will be sold at the annual Gainesville Lions Club Auction set for 7 p.m. Saturday in Benton F. Breeding Stadium across from the Gainesville Elementary School. Harlin is holding a Kansas City Chiefs helmet autographed by NFL MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes that is among the many items to be offered up for bids.

The annual Gainesville Lions Club Auction, originally scheduled for Friday, April 17, and postponed due to safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, June 20.

The event will be held outside at Benton F. Breeding Stadium on the Gainesville High School campus to allow for social distancing. If it rains, the auction will be held the following Saturday, June 27.

The chili dinner that has traditionally accompanied the auction won’t be served this year, but the school’s famous cinnamon rolls, along with drinks, will be available, for a donation, to all who attend.

This year’s raffle, held in conjunction with the auction, includes 14 firearms, a gun safe, a kayak, a flying drone and other items. Only about 70 raffle tickets are still available of the 300 that will be sold. Multiple winners’ names will be drawn throughout the live-auction event, with each winner getting to select from the remaining items. Raffle tickets may be purchased for $50 from any Century Bank of the Ozarks location or from Gainesville Lions Club members.

The live auction includes a Kansas City Chiefs helmet autographed by MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes and many other items and services donated by local businesses and individuals.

Proceeds from the auction and raffle will benefit the summer ball program, scholarships and other Lions Club projects.
