Old-time Ozarks music gathering

The Ozark County Historium in Gainesville will host an old-time music get-together at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24. The event, honoring Ozarks gatherings such as the McClurg music jam, pictured here, will begin with a discussion about old-time music and its place in local communities. Ozarks Alive! blogger Kaitlyn McConnell will lead the discussion that will feature several of the region’s longtime musicians, including H.K. Silvey of Thornfield, Alvie Dooms of Ava and J.R. Johnston of Norwood, along with their younger protege, David Scrivner of Kissee Mills. After the discussion, the musicians will stay and play some of the old songs commonly heard in days gone by. This event is free and open to the public; seating is limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis. If the weather is bad, the event will be postponed to a later date.
