Ozark County Library is raising funds to replace old lighting

Ozark County Volunteer Library board president Joann Krupp, left, and vice president Aletta Moore, shown here in the book-sale area of the library’s basement, are leading a fund-raising effort to install new light fixtures with LED bulbs to replace the old, fluorescent fixtures that are 40 years old.

The Ozark County Volunteer Library is launching a fundraising drive, hoping to raise $3,946 to pay for replacing the library’s fluorescent light fixtures, which were in the building when it was acquired in the 1980s. “Over time, even with good maintenance, they are failing,” said library board vice president Aletta Moore.

The library board has been advised to convert the fixtures to use LED bulbs, which are more cost efficient and will also provide improved illumination, Moore said. The library has a total of 26 fixtures, 10 in the basement and 16 on the main floor.

The board also hopes to add two additional lights on the staircase.

“The library receives no public or tax funding and must rely on donations from the community and money generated by our book sales, so this project will constitute a major expenditure for us,” Moore said, adding that the plan is to start with the basement, which receives less natural light than the main floor. It’s hoped the project can begin soon.

Contributions “would be greatly appreciated,” Moore said. Checks may be made payable to Ozark County Volunteer Library and dropped off at the library during its operating hours, 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Mondays and from 9 a.m. until noon Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, or mailed to P.O. Box 518, Gainesville, MO 65655.
