Recorder’s office resumes issuing marriage licenses by appointment

The Ozark County Recorder’s office will resume issuing marriage licenses Friday, April 17, says Ozark County Circuit Clerk and Recorder Becki Strong. A story in last week’s Times reported that Strong’s office was suspending issuing the licenses during the COVID-19 pandemic, following the lead of other recorder’s offices in the area.

Now, couples are asked to call the recorder’s office at 417-679-4232 to schedule an appointment. Appointments will be scheduled on Tues-days and Fridays at spaced intervals.

At the time of their appointment and their arrival at the courthouse, the couple will again call the recorder’s office for admittance to the courthouse at the basement door on the east side of the square. A safe location will be provided for them to complete the application and wait for the license, she said, stressing that couples should not arrive without an appointment.

“When ‘normal’ returns, we will resume issuing licenses as before on a daily basis and without appointments,” Strong said.
