Sections of Highway 160 west of Theodosia closed through Jan. 2

Sections of Highway 160 between P Highway west of Theodosia and Mark Twain School at Highway 125 south will be closed several hours on weekdays through Jan. 2 so that culverts can be replaced.

Sections of Highway 160 between P Highway west of Theodosia and Mark Twain School (at Highway 125 south near Reuter) will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. weekdays through Jan. 2, except for Friday, Dec. 22, and Mondays, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, when the road will be open.

The Missouri Department of Transportation announced last week the closures within the stretch of Highway 160 west of Theodosia are happening so that MoDOT crews can replace 16 old and deteriorating culverts in that stretch of roadway. Charlie Peterson, supervisor of the MoDOT’s Bradleyville shed, said the culverts are being replaced ahead of an anticipated (but not yet contracted) asphalt overlay expected to be placed on Highway 160 next year, possibly from Gainesville to Mark Twain School

During the designated work period, the roadway will be open before and after the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Peterson said, and crews will work hard to provide access during work hours to those residents who have driveways that connect to the roadway within the closed work area. Also, access will be provided for emergency vehicles that need to pass through the work area.

However, he noted that, depending on the specific area where the highway is being worked on between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. weekdays, a detour may or may not be available for regular traffic.
