Sept. 27 meeting will focus on rock-quarry expansion issues

A public meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at The Center in Gainesville related to MLH Excavating’s application to expand its current 5-acre rock quarry on Highway 5 north to 30 acres.

The meeting is being held so that representatives of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and MLH Excavating can address the concerns of the public surrounding the proposed rock quarry expansion.

At a June 28 meeting about the expansion, residents in the area raised questions about how the expansion might impact natural springs near the quarry as well as home foundations and residential water supplied from private wells. A person who attended the meeting told the Times that, after the June meeting, MLH withdrew its application and then refiled, re-starting the application procedure.
