Sharp honor

When last we shared Navy Airman Jacob Nanney’s Navy duty adventures, he was “standing tight” as part of the White House weapons cordon that lined a White House walkway as newly inaugurated President Donald Trump and his family walked by to reach the stands where they would watch the 2017 inauguration parade. Since then, Jacob, grandson of Dora residents Donna and Terry Lemons, has participated in some of our nation’s most prestigious ceremonies, including military burials at Arlington National Cemetery, where guard members may serve at as many as six funerals a day, five days a week. Recently, Jacob made “full honors,” qualifying as a full member of the ceremonial guard’s drill team, which not only performs its amazingly precise drills that involve tossing and twirling bayonet-rifles at events at Arlington and elsewhere in the Washington, D.C., area but also throughout the country.
