Missouri’s primary election is Tuesday, and for Ozark County, the primary election is the election that will determine who holds office here in the next few years because all candidates for local races are Republican.

One Ozark County candidate, Mike Lind, is running unopposed on the Democratic ticket for the 155th Missouri House District seat. In the Nov. 3 General Election, Lind will face either Travis Smith or Joe Combs, whichever candidate for that position wins next week’s Republican primary.

Ozark County Clerk Brian Wise said around 170 absentee ballots have been requested. His office will be open from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday, and until 5 p.m. Monday to accommodate those wishing to vote absentee. To be counted, all absentee and mail-in ballots must be received at the clerk’s office by 7 p.m. Tuesday. For more information, call the clerk’s office at 679-3516.

This week the Times is featuring profiles of the three Republican candidates running for Ozark County Assessor (see page B2). Last week, we published profiles of the candidates running in contested races for the 155th Missouri House District, the 33rd Missouri Senate District, and Ozark County sheriff and eastern and western district commissioner.

These Ozark County incumbents are running unopposed for reelection to their offices, and profiles were not compiled for them: treasurer, Christy Thompson; public administrator, Melinda Abraham; surveyor, Matt Wade.

Gene Britt is running unopposed for the Ozark County coroner’s job currently held by Shane Ledbetter, who has not filed for re-election as coroner but instead is running in the contested race for western district commissioner.

A sample ballot, as well as a list of Ozark County polling places, appears on page B7 of this week’s Times. The polls will be open from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Because the Ozark County Times goes to press at midday Tuesday, election results will not be published in the Aug. 5 edition. However, we will post results on ozarkcountytimes.com and on the Ozark County Times Facebook page.

Precinct-by-precinct vote counts and totals will be published in the Aug. 12 edition.
