Photo courtesy Lindsay Collins Fields decorated with hay bales have created pretty scenery lately around the county, but this year’s crazy spring weather and dry conditions have resulted in a substantially smaller hay crop than in previous years. The shortage has livestock producers scrambling to find hay to buy for the coming winter. Ozark County Extension specialist Randy Wiedmeier said that in good years, fields might produce five or six round bales per acre, but this year it’s more like two or three.
