Gaines Leland Hoff, 88

Gaines Leland Hoff, 88, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, formerly of Gainesville, died Jan. 12, 2021, at his home. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. 

He was born July 23, 1932, in Oakland, California, the son of Adolph and Golda Vogt Hoff. He attended Fremont High School in Oakland, where he lettered in track. In 1953, he joined the Air Force, training in Valdosta, Georgia, and becoming a firefighter. He was then sent to Paris, France, for two years. After he returned to California, he went to work for Pacific Bell Telephone Company. 

In 1960, he met Jackie Robbins. They were married on Jan. 21, 1961.

Mr. Hoff spent many years with the telephone company, transferring from Pacific Bell to Southwestern Bell of Missouri. He retired early from Aeroquip in Mountain Home to continue work on his farm near Gainesville. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Oakland and transferred his membership to the Willard, Missouri, Masonic Lodge, where it remained for 50 years. He was also a member of the Abou Ben Adhem Shriners in Springfield for 40 years. 

He joined the Presbyterian Church as a young adult and remained a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mountain Home. He thoroughly enjoyed the many family road trips he took every summer. He enjoyed golf and spending time on the lakes with family and friends. He was a loving father and husband and always a perfect gentleman. 

He is survived by one son, Brian Hoff and wife Mary of Rogersville; daughters Alica Rutherford and husband Chris, and Kim Uchtman and husband Wes, all of Gainesville; four grandchildren, Joshua Lyman and wife Brittany of Springfield, Logan Stone and wife Katy of Forsyth, Amanda Hoff of Springfield, Will Uchtman of Gainesville; and one great-granddaughter, Piper Stone. 

He was proceeded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles Hoff.
