JIMMY 'JIM' BAKER

Jimmy ‘Jim’ Allen Baker, 73, of Ava, died Aug. 3, 2020, at his home with his wife and children by his side. No local services are planned at this time.

He was born Oct. 20, 1946, in Oildale, Oklahoma, the son of Floyd Exeter and Edna Elva Treat Baker. He was an Army veteran who served in Vietnam.

On July 18, 2006, in Gainesville, he married his wife, Brenda.

Mr. Baker had recently retired after working as a mail carrier in the Ava community for 30 years. He loved playing the guitar and singing. He also enjoyed studying physics, science, math and reading the Bible. He was a Christian, and he and Mrs. Baker studied the Bible together every Sunday. 

He is survived by his wife; three step-children, Ronny Baker and Lisa Baker, both of Ava, and Angela Goodman of Gainesville; several grandchildren and  great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill Baker of Coos Bay, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews, and lots of friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Charles, Jerry, Dennis, Wilburn, Glen and Leon.
