Julia Christean ‘Chris’ Hicks, 73

Funeral services for Julia Christean “Chris” Hicks, 73, of Squires, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava with Pastor Maxine Lund officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Due to concerns related to the covid-19 virus, those attending are asked to please wear a mask. Mrs. Hicks died Dec. 20 near her home.

She was born March 19, 1947, in Ocie, the daughter of Herbert and Oma Hart Howard. On Dec. 23, 1990, in Ava, she married Fred Dean Hicks.

Mrs. Hicks worked at Rawlings in Ava for many years and also painted houses. She was a Christian and attended the Girdner Church. She enjoyed gardening, painting and cooking and loved spending time outdoors.

She is survived by her husband, Fred; one daughter and one son, Rhonda Trent of Gainesville, and Ronnie Trent and wife Tina of Goodhope; two stepsons, Kurt Hicks and wife Jessica of Cape Fair, and David Stone of West Plains; six grandchildren, Christopher Trent, Kellie Trent, Dylan Hampton, Houston Trent, Kyiah Trent and Wyatt Trent; step-grandson Dakota Hicks; two sisters, Barbara Murrill and husband, Danny of Hillsboro, and Opal “Opie” McKinney and husband Kevin of Springfield; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends and a host of other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters and three brothers, Johnny Howard, Thelma “T.J.” Strong, Jimmy Howard, Charlotte Howard, Robert Howard, Marie Risley and her late husband, Jimmy “Ronnie” Trent. 

Burial will be in the Girdner Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Girdner Cemetery.  Online condolences may be expressed at clinkingbeardfuneralhome.com.
