Lola Wachlotz, 96

Lola Wachlotz

A memorial service for Lola Elizabeth Wacholtz, 96, of Thornfield, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020, at Hilltop Victory Chapel near Thornfield. Mrs. Wacholtz died Oct. 16 at her home.

She was born Feb 7, 1924, in Bloomfield, Nebraska, the daughter of Frank and Stella Kumm. After graduating from high school, she moved to Denver, Colorado, where she worked as a secretary for a number of firms. There she met and married Leonard Wacholtz in 1949. They had one son, Steven.

She continued to work part-time as she raised her son and managed her family’s home. She was active in her local Lutheran church, Bethlehem, and ensured that her only son was given a Christian education through high school. She lived her faith and cared for both her husband, Leonard, who was often ill and her mother, Stella, who lived to be 108.

Mrs. Wacholtz loved to dance. She also enjoyed picnicking in the Rocky Mountains and later visited England when her son was stationed there with the Air Force. She moved to Thornfield in 2009 to be with her son and his wife as her health declined.

She is survived by her son, Steve, and wife Sherry of Thornfield; three grandsons, Frank Wacholtz and wife Rebecca, Luke Wacholtz and wife Catherine, and Mathew Wacholtz and wife Maureen; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her stepbrother and two stepsisters.

Memorial contributions may be made through the Gideons International.

Arrangements by Whelchel Grace Funeral Home, Forsyth.
