Nina Sue Turley, 88

Funeral services for Nina Sue Turley, 88, of Ava, were held Nov. 27, 2020, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava with Pastor James Hathcock officiating. Mrs. Turley died Nov. 23 at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare with her family by her side.

Sue was born Dec. 12, 1931, in Lutie, the daughter of Kelly Vernon and Florence Nevada Young Peacock. She attended the Barefoot School and graduated from Gainesville High School in 1950. She went on to attend what is now Missouri State University in Springfield and then taught at the Barefoot School for one term.

On Dec. 22, 1951, in Mountain Home, Arkansas, she married Boyd Howard Turley. They moved to Kansas City, where Mrs. Turley worked at Hallmark Cards. In 1964, the couple purchased a farm in Ava, where she helped milk cows and worked as a substitute teacher in the Ava Schools. She was also a social worker for the state of Missouri, working out of the Douglas County office for 30 years.

She was a Christian and a member of First General Baptist Church in Ava, the Gideons Ladies Auxillary and the Golden Varsity Sunday School Group. She never missed a shopping trip or the chance to go out to eat.

Mrs. Turley loved her family and was always the best cheerleader at the grandkids’ school events. She enjoyed baking pies and cookies and spent hours baking cookies each deer season for her little hunters to take to the lodge. She was always ready to give hugs and plenty of love pats. She enjoyed life and left a wonderful example for her family. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her three daughters and their spouses, Suzette Litwiller and husband David, Phyllis Turley, and Gail Dalton and husband Randy; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandsons; and many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by Boyd, her husband of 54 years who died in 2005; and one brother, Gordon Peacock.

Burial will be in the Lutie Cemetery in Theodosia. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutie Cemetery or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Online condolences may be expressed at clinkingbeardfuneralhome.com.
