Ray McDaniel, 81

A memorial service for Ray McDaniel, 81, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, formerly of Zanoni, was held March 27, 2021, at Roller Funeral Home in Mountain Home. Mr. McDaniel died March 24.

He was born May 29, 1939, in Cardiff, Arkansas, the son of Gus and Ethel McDaniel. 

Mr. McDaniel was a devoted member of the Church of Christ. He was known for working as a radio broadcaster for KTLO from 1959 to 1968 and for co-hosting one of the first radio talk shows in the Twin Lakes area. He hosted “R&R with TT&O” with Ray Shields. 

From 1969 to 1972, he was the owner and general manager of radio station KRBB in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. 

He was an avid outdoorsman who spent lots of time in the woods hunting deer and turkey. 

On Sept. 21, 1998, in Gurdon, Arkansas, he married Lillie McGuirt. They retired in Zanoni, north of Gainesville, where they enjoyed many years of gardening, birdwatching and spending time with neighbors. 

Mr. McDaniel was talented in woodworking. He also enjoyed playing his guitar and singing, and he was a frequent participant in music sessions held at The Center. 

Mr. McDaniel will forever be loved and missed by his family and friends in the Gainesville and Mountain Home areas. 

He is survived by two daughters, Cindy McCraw and husband Ron, and Kathy Bishop and husband Lewis; one sister, Matha Fulkerson and husband Bob; three stepsons, Allen McGuirt and wife Becky, Philip McGuirt and wife Jen, and Chris Williams and wife Jennifer; four stepdaughters, Elizabeth Jones and husband Darrel, Tammy Ricketts and husband Ronnie, Rebecca Franklin and husband Patrick, and Teresa Pennington and husband Stephen; several grandchildren and step-grandchildren, including Shannon Rucker and husband Garrett, Anna Hudson and husband Chad, Courtney Pickett and husband Brandon, Candace Kind and husband Richard, Katy Dubois and husband Zach, Laura Oates, Ryan McCraw and John McCraw;  several great-grandchildren, including Amelia Rucker, Strat Rucker, Jackson Criner, Dell Pickett, Sydney King, Myles King, Emily Oates, Willow Oates and Jacob McCraw; several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie; his parents; four brothers, Lloyd, Gerald, Gaylen and Olen McDaniel; two sisters, Laura McDaniel and Eloise Wells; one step-daughter, Gail Clark; and one grandchild, Kaylan Lawrence.
