The Rev. Marvin Wray

Funeral services for the Rev. Marvin Fines Wray, 96, of Ava, were held Aug. 29, 2020, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava with his family members officiating: the Rev. Dean Trivitt, the Rev. Ron Wallace and the Rev. Zack Green. Mr. Wray died Aug. 25 at his home with his loving wife, Faye, and their family by his side.

He was born July 24, 1924, in Pontiac, the son of William “Willie” A. and Duskie Ann Wilbanks Wray. On Aug. 29, 1943, he married Faye Lorene Norton at her parents’ home in Gainesville. At the time of his death, the Wrays were preparing to celebrate their 77th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Wray was a General Baptist minister and a carpenter. He pastored for many years at the First General Baptist Church in Ava, and he also pastored at several churches in Ozark County. He was a member of the Ava General Baptist Church when he died.

He loved the opportunity to work alongside his son, Darrell, and son-in-law, Dean, in building several homes in the area. He was a gentle, kind and godly man who loved the Lord and had great joy in serving Him. 

He will be greatly missed, and his legacy of faith and love will live on in his family.  

He is survived by his wife, Faye, of the home; his two children, Sandra Trivitt and husband Dean, and Darrell Wray and wife Debbie, all of Ava; four grandchildren and their spouses, Gary Trivitt and wife Roxanna, Sheila Green and husband Chuck, Ron Wallace and wife Lacey, and Darin Wray and wife Colette; 13 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings, Lula Wray, Versie Terry, Stella Friend, Elois Scott, Agnes Patterson and Velta Depew; and one granddaughter, Kelly Wray. 

Burial will be in the Lutie Cemetery in Theodosia. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutie Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at clinkingbeardfuneralhome.com.
