Robert Earl Helms, 84
Funeral services for Robert Earl Helms, 84, of Tecumseh, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville with Dr. Frank Mulford officiating. Visitation will be from noon to service time Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Helms died Dec. 2 at the Good Samaritan Society in Mountain Home, Arkansas.
He was born Nov. 17, 1933, in Oak Grove, West Carroll Parish, Louisiana, the son of Juit H. and Gladys Chaney Helms. On May 15, 1960, in Wilson, Arkansas, he married Peggy Ann Davis.
On June 5, 1970, he was “born again” at First Baptist Church in Adrian, Minnesota. Mr. Helms was a veteran, having served in the Marine Corps. He then spent 29 years working for Safeway Stores, Inc., serving most of those years as manager. He was pastor of the Calvary Baptist Temple in Gainesville for 13 years and touched many lives in his ministry and his constant witnessing. He was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Helms of Tecumseh, and one sister, Peggy J. Helms of Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joe T. Helms.
Full military honors will be presented following the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of the Ozarks, 701 Burnett Dr., Mountain Home, AR 72653.
