Vera Lea Lickey, 91

Vera Lea Hambelton Lickey, 91, of St. Louis, formerly of Gainesville, died Jan. 28, 2021, at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

She was born Aug. 30, 1929, in Gainesville, the daughter of Albert and Winnie Cochran Hambelton. She graduated from Gainesville High School in 1946. In her early adult years, she was employed as a secretary in the Ozark County Recorder’s  Office and as a waitress at Skeeter’s Café. Later, she was a supervisor for Brown Shoe Company.

Mrs. Lickey was a former member of the Church of Christ in Gainesville and the Rebecca Lodge in West Plains. She loved quilting, sewing, painting and, most of all, being with her family.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol Looney and husband Jim of Harrisonville and DeEdra Lickey of St. Louis; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, John Estes of St. Louis; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lickey; a son, Robert “Bobby” McGinnis; a daughter, Kathryn McGinnis Estes; a granddaughter, Candice McGinnis; and a brother, Warden Hinsley.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lilly Ridge Baptist Church in Gainesville.
