LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Thanks for the Times Past photo

Thank you for the Times Past picture in the March 21 issue of the Times that included my grandmother, Mary Mahan. Grandma Mahan was born in 1870 and died in 1959. She had seven girls, one boy and 39 grandchildren, and she was a widow for 40 years. Her farm was on Pond Fork above Theodosia.
Emma Mahan Weston, Grandma’s first child, had a daughter, Helen Sadler, who lived to be 100 years old. My mother, Jessie Mahan Johnson, was Grandma Mary’s youngest; she was born in 1910 and lived to be 94 years old.  I loved to visit Grandma Mahan. She was loving and caring, a perfect Christian lady. She so loved little children. I’m sure she’s happy in heaven.
Her daughter Emma married Silas Weston; the Times Past photo was taken at a family gathering at their house, built by Silas; it still stands near the Ozark County Sheriff’s Office. Her other children were Mattie, who married Jasper McGuire; Daisy, who married Ted Upton; Lillie, who married Dow Wallace; her son Callie, who married Myrtle Brown; Bessie, who married Melborn Hackler (and then Walter Webster and then Everett Johnson); Brooksie, who married Lonnie McGinnis; and my mother, Jessie, who married Frank Johnson.
I hope  everyone has happy memories of their grandmothers, as I do.
Rex Johnson (and wife Frances)
