Legislative report

Lyle Rowland

Greetings from your state Capitol.

The new year seemed to arrive quicker than those of past years. Maybe that’s due to the fact that this is my final session – or it may be due to my being another year older (as of Jan. 2).

The second session of the 99th General Assembly started on Jan. 3 with Speaker of the House Todd Richardson giving us an opening day speech that laid the groundwork for what we need to try and achieve by session’s end. We adjourned that opening day rather quickly and went home for the weekend.

This week started with all burners fired up. Committees were meeting, and the Capitol was full of people. In one of the committees, I presented a bill (HB 1572) that deals with putting a “DHH” code on a person’s driver’s license that would tell law officials that the person is deaf or hard of hearing. Hopefully this will make it to the finish line.

The House took up two bills this week that we will Third Read next week and send to the Senate.

The State of the State address was given by Governor Greitens on Wednesday evening.  More to come on his speech next week.

My calendar is getting filled with committee meetings and meetings with individuals and groups. I feel this is going to be a great session for the Missouri House of Representatives.

It is truly a privilege to represent you in state government.
