Extension office to host ‘drought and your farm’ seminar for struggling farmers, ranchers

The University of Missouri Extension office in Gainesville is hosting a free upcoming seminar titled ‘drought and your farm’ from noon to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25. Attendees are required to pre-register before Monday, Aug. 22. When residents call to pre-register details on the seminar's location will be given at that time. 

The event will feature several speakers who will discuss various aspects of the drought and how it is affecting local farmers and ranchers. 

Topics will include drought facts, how to protect forage during drought, nitrate and prussic acid, low-cost supplemental feeding, herd management during drought and drought relief programs. 

Speakers include Dr. Sarah Kenyon, field specialist in agronomy; Elizabeth Picking, field specialist in livestock; Magan Henderson, county executive director for the Farm Service Agency; Eric Meusch, field specialist in livestock and Melisa Myers, soil and water conservation district specialist. 

 A meal will be provided for guests thanks to Powell Feed and Milling.
